Area around Guangdong University of Foreign Studies is considered as some kind of suburb in Guangzhou, at the foot of Baiyun Mountain. It is quiet, fresh in the air, but geographically far from Pazhou. There is no metro nearby, and it takes around 30 minutes by taxi to Pazhou (through the highway, yet it will take longer time when driving through downtown).

Living around campus, there are some advantages worth considering: the student resource as interpreter or translator, the comparatively lower consumption, which still meet the needs of daily life, etc. Stores, banks, coffee shops, restaurants, as well as foot massage centers still can be found here. Further down the road, you will find the markets for auto parts.

Generally, hotels near GUFS are basic and neat, mainly ranging from US$30 to US$60, with standard facilities like Internet access, but most of them do not provide shuttle bus to Pazhou.

There are some pretty cheap hostels (about 10 minutes walk from GUFS), charging US$20—30 per night, with shower and air conditioner. However, you have to bear the chaos of the surroundings. It is the villages-amidst-the-city, where there are many immigrant workers, and factories are being built. It is noisy and the security is not so good at night. Traffic here is busy, with the overpass nearby.

It is 2 bus stops south from GUFS, yet the surroundings and hotels are quite different.

Around the landmark Baiyun International Convention Center, there are mainly two kinds of accommodations, one is the high end hotels where often accommodate the leaders or guests coming for the conventions. High end restaurants can also be found here. The other is the budget hotel at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, ranging from US$30 to US$80 per night.

What’s more, if you are interested in the resort in Baiyun mountain, and do not mind the inconvenient transport down the hill, the villas on the hill would be worth considering, since it will not increase the room rate during Canton Fair. Just for US$100—120 per night, you will be able to enjoy the great environment and facilities up to a 4 star hotel. Of course, they will provide the shuttle bus for going down the hill (about 30min to the foot of mountain).
