General review on hotels in Dongguan

Up to now, we have just covered two towns in Dongguan, Humen and Chang’an, which are about one hour’s drive to Pazhou (taxi fare: about US$40). There is no metro.

Hotels in these areas are comparatively lower priced, ranging from US$15 to US$60, most of which will not increase the rates during Canton Fair. They provide standard facilities, some of which include shuttle bus to Pazhou. Most of the star hotels are experienced to receive foreign guests.

Considering the long distance from Pazhou (Guangzhou), which would cost you travel time or higher traffic fee, we would not suggest you staying in those budget hotels that do not provide shuttle bus to Pazhou. Of course, if you’d like to visit the factories or attend the exhibitions in Dongguan, those budget hotels would be worth considering.

Humen

Humen is one of the most famous towns in Dongguan, well known for its fashion wear industry. There are many apparel wholesale markets, which are trading home and abroad.

Compared with Guangzhou, it is with less noise and dust, yet the river is seriously polluted by the drainage from the factories. Daily life here is convenient, banks, western restaurants, coffee shop, Muslim restaurant and vegetarian restaurants are easily found.

Humen is also a historical town for tourism. It is where the Opium War happened, so if you are interested in modern Chinese history, it would be a sightseeing spot.
