Shamian Island is one of the high-end residential areas in Guangzhou where have resided many foreigners, with western atmosphere and a very quiet and comfortable environment.

It lies at the side of Pearl River, and south across the river there is Bai’e Tan Bar Street. There is Shangxiajiu, the shopping pedestrian street next to it. Metro station (Huangsha) is within walking distance, which is 14 stops from Pazhou (about 30min). It takes around 25 minutes to Pazhou by taxi.

There are many consulates here, including American, Germany, Philippines, Thailand and Poland. Different kinds of western restaurants can be found here, as well as churches, clubs and many Chinese arts and crafts shops on this island.

General review on hotels in the area

Most of the hotels on this island are high-end star hotels, ranging from US$90 to US$380 per night during Canton Fair, among which is White Swan Hotel. They have experience of receiving foreigners and most of their staffs have good English speaking skill.
