Shangxiajiu is one of the three downtown areas as well as the traditional shopping center in Guangzhou. Metro stations are within walking distance (14 stops from Pazhou), yet due to the heavy traffic, it would take around 40 minutes to Pazhou by taxi.

Area around Shangxiajiu is the old quarter of Guangzhou, where still preserve the buildings and architectures in a mix of South China and European style. You would find the folk custom when tracing down the aged alleys. No matter from the art crafts in Chen Clan Academy (Chenjiaci) or the delicate food and snacks in the street, you would have a taste of Guangzhou local culture.

Meanwhile, there are many wholesale markets around, for jewelry (mainly jade and crystal), children’s wear, toys, garments(mainly for domestic market), etc.

Most hotels in this area would double or triple the room rates during Canton Fair, however, budget accommodations ranging from US$20 to US$60 are still available. They provide basic facilities, like internet access, shuttle bus to Pazhou, etc.
